We talked about the same sex marriage. The total of 29 countries and territories around the world recognize the same sex, but Japan doesn't. Japan is the only country in the G7 that doesn't offer any rights to same -sex couples. LGBTQ awareness in Japan has lagged behind other developed countries and many people identified as LGBTQ described themselves as reticent. However, some people say that things have been changing a lot in the past 20 years. In 2015, Shibuya Ward in Tokyo announced that it would offer "partnership certificates". All though that certificates are not legal, the certificates are used as de facto marriage certificates to help same sex couples with matters such as hospital visits and renting apartments. More and more people in Japan started to support gay rights.

The main concept of Tendai-sect derives from Hokekyo, the Lotus-sutra, which every people has Buddhahood in nature.

Under the chaos of current society I decided to rethink about Buddhism. In this class I picked up Saicho
and the Tendai-sect of Buddhism.

Double lesson

We talked about New Osaka Merger.
The city's 24 wards might be merged after the referendum on November 1.
This is the second try. The first attempt was made in 2015 with a mayor, Hashimoto, but it was defeated by 11,000 votes out of more than 1.4 million cast. The result of the second try will depend on two major facts, political scene and corona virus.
Next, we also talked about Mr and Mrs.Kawai who allegedly spent \30 million on bribes. The Tokyo prosecutors confiscated their smart phones at a Tokyo hotel where they were staying and found through analysis that messages they had sent on Line before the election had been erased. The prosecutors have recovered the data.

Double lesson

We talked about the famous wrestler, Hana Kimura who committed a suicide after receiving caustic comments from the public about what she said. What she said on the show caused arguments.
We also talked about the Japanese government bond. The total value of Japanese government bonds is projected to \964 trillion at the end of fiscal 2020. The tax raising and cut spending are mandatory to keep the trust in JGBs.
At last, we discussed about aviation industry. Fewer pilots are being trained because they go overseas for training and the countries hosting them have stopped issuing visas to prevent the spread of the corona-virus.

Double lesson

We talked about the death of Shigeru Yokota whose daughter was abducted by North Korea and fought for decades to get his loved ones with other abductee family members. A lot of victims' family was greatly shocked by his death. His wife, Sakie said that they have worked hard to get their daughter back and received encouragement and support from many including Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe.

Also we talked about the government's plan to provide more personal computers to Japanese schools overseas so that Japanese students can study remotely. The Japanese government widened the scope of the existing domestic initiative.

At last, we talked about postponing the visit by Chinese President Xi Jimpimg until China looses its grip on Hong Kong and heightened tensions between China and the United States are lowered.

Double lesson

We talked about the riots in the United States. The riots started from Minnesota, cause by white supremacists and spread over the United States. They pretend to be right and reject the legitimacy of the government. Also we talked about the education in Japan. In Japan teachers are wearing masks and teaching from behind a plastic sheet. They limit the number of students who are allowed inside the classroom. While prolonged school closure, single mothers have education more difficult because they can't afford to let their children go to cram school or use online resources. They only have smart phones and no wi-fi at homes. The ministry of education was thinking of moving the exams to June. But they changed their minds. After thinking about starting school in September instead of April, Spring, they found that they are not well prepared for the change. Even though they returned to their office again the climate within the offices changed. The number of customers are fewer. At gyms classes where people sweat have been canceled because this is one way it can spread. The pathogen can be spread through sweat which makes the gyms a hot spot.

We talked about the changes and the trends of working style. The pandemic is promoting companies and employees of all stripes to adopt remote work and flexible commutes to reduce contagion risks, accelerating the digital shift of the workplace while creating new business opportunities. Remote work is safer to eliminate fixed costs and minimize the financial and health risks. This trend will continue even after the state of emergency is lifted.

In this lessen I introduced Japanese traditional color and culture. Purple is the most precious color because Murasaki roots contain only a small amount of pigment. I also talked about Shie-jiken purple robe incident which occurred during the early Edo period. To know history is interesting.

Double lesson

We talked about the couple who was supposed to have the wedding this April, but was forced to postpone it due to the Corona virus. The couple was two days late to cancel it and ended up with losing a million yen. One wedding concierge is trying to offer a free service of having the wedding ceremony on Zoom, but it is still under development.

Also, we talked about the effect of Corona Virus. The number of companies which went bankrupt rapidly increased due to the Corona Virus.

Due to the Corona Virus, purchasing patterns are changing.
People tend to shift toward cooking at home, shop on line and work remotely and this trend might continue even after COVID-19 die down.
