今回は茶道の祖、千利休についてお話ししました。「和、敬、清、寂」すなわち、harmony,respect,purity,and tranquilityが大切な要素だそうです。いつ、お客さんが来られても迎えられるように部屋は綺麗にしておくべしとのことです。それで、今頑張って掃除をしています。

We mainly talked about Setubun.
Setubun is a festival to welcome the beginning of Spring to ward off the illness and unfortune. We usually have a ceremony called 'Mamemaki' on that day, we throws roasted beans away against the evil, believe beans drive the evil away and bring us the fortune. On that day we have a custom to have the same number of beans as my age to have the good health and have the special rolled sushi. That special rolled sushi has seven ingredients, representing seven deities of good fortune. While having it, we should look at a certain direction, a lucky direction of that year and have it without talking to keep guud luck from slipping away. We have an application to tell us where the lucky direction is. Setubun is usually on the third of February, but is on the second of February, happening the first in 124 years. The day of Setubun is decided, depending on the speed of the earth to rotate around the sun. It usually takes 365 days for the earth to rotate around the sun, but that's not exact. We need adjustments to the calendar. That's the reason Setubun is either on the 2nd of Feburary or on the 3rd of Feburary.

この時代に作られたことを話すととても、驚いておられました。雪の金閣寺は綺麗ですね。

このクラスでは室町時代についてお話ししました。後醍醐天皇と足利尊氏との関係など、知らないことが
多かったのですが英語で解説されている動画を見てだいぶ分かるようになりました。ユーチューブは便利ですね。

We discussed about yarn crafts. Knitting is better suited to times when we are being encouraged to stay home and restrict our social circles. There are two types of knitters. There are those who focus on the results and those who focus on the process. Knitting can be used as meditation with a little bit of equipment. A survey to knitters indicates knitting can be a counterbalance to a stressful job. There are knit nights and classes on line.

We also discussed about new president of the United States, Biden. How will he handle China Conundrum? It's the million dollar question. Biden may be able to reverse many of his predecessor's policies with the wave of a hand, but not the China challenge. Biden will need to address the international dimension of the China challenge. A successful Biden administration will need to learn and adapt from former President Donald Trump's successes and failures.

We mainly talked about problems I faced.
I accidentally deleted my customer’s data and needed to recover it spent a whole day for it. Also we also talked about Tokyo Olympics. The government may have to break away and it may be canceled if the safety for all the athletes, coaches and reporters is not assured. Since deferring it to next year will cost billions of dollars, that will not be an option. IOC thought of it as the celebration and the sign that the coronavirus pandemic is over. The cancellation of Olympics has been the first time since the World War II and both Japan and IOC will get huge financial and economical damage from it.

We mainly discussed about my work, how to talk with customers and get their requirements. Customers do not usually know what's the best for them. They usually recognize their needs while talking with specialists so I myself as a web designer has to have an ability to figure out their demands.

We mainly talked about New Year, twelve horary signs. The New Year suppose to be a period to stay with the god. The door is decorated so the entrance can get in. We have to clean the house before the god enters. A decorated offering made with an orange and rice cakes is made and left out. That blesses the continuous lineage. Chop sticks used during the New Year are double-sided therefore as people and the gods can eat at the same time. After the New Year, the god retreats.

In this class I introduced the Kuge culture and the Reizei family in Kyoto.

We mainly talked about how we have reacted to the coronavirus. The first infection was confirmed on the 16th of January. The government sent three planes to evacuate more than 700 Japanese nationals from Wuhan. Hundreds of passengers and crew became infected. Experts were concerned that voluntary measures will have a diminishing impact and people will stop taking it seriously. That's the situation in Japan. At the first wave, most victims were elderlies, but young people who visited clubs and hostess bars in Shinjuku's Kabukicho, one of the most vibrant nightlife districts were most victims at the second wave. At the third wave, clusters are emerging in places and at a pace never before seen in Tokyo, Osaka, Aichi Kanagawa, Hyogo and Ibaraki. Yasutoshi Nishimura, the Cabinet minister leading the country's virus response said Japan may have no choice but to declare a state of emergency if the nationwide surge isn't subdued by mid-December. He also said efforts should first and foremost, focus on individuals at higher risk of infection, or places where clusters are known to have occurred, and expand from there. It is very important to react proactively.

Mainly we talked about imperial succession.
Many conservative lawmakers and academics are seeking to maintain male-only succession rules while the public widely supports allowing women to ascend to the throne. There are only three males in line to succeed 60 year old Emperor Naruhito, his young brother Crown Prince Akishino 55 year old ,the crown prince's son Hisahito 14 year old and the emperor's uncle Prince Hitachi 85 year old. If the government choose to avoid making a decision, the focus is expected to turn to ways to alleviate the burden of official duties on a shrinking pool of imperial family members.

Also we talked about infectious database. The government is considering setting up a integrated database to facilitate the prompt treatment of infectious disease such as Covid-19. Information on medical material such as blood samples and the mucus of infected people will be stored in the database which will be operated by the National Institute of Infectious Disease and the National Center for Global Health and Medicine.

At last, we talked about SDF nurses to be sent to Osaka as health system nears collapse.
Some GSDF nurses have already been deployed to Asahikawa Hokkaido for medical support. The medical system in the city is on the verge of collapse.
