We read text about culture shocks. Tipping, eating what you're given, don't empty your plate, manner mode, train boarding methods. For each topic, we discussed and shared experiences of our own culture shocks. It was fun lesson and interesting to know about different culture, and to know which Japanese culture looks different from other countries. Thank you and see you soon! |

The pilgrimage, usually is a religious action of Muslims. However, in Japan, it means visiting the location of scenes in animation, considering these places as equivalent to holy places. On the 80’, many anime was set in the Tokyo, for example “The Return of Lum”, “CITY HUNTER”, etc. In these days many anime movies set in the rural area in Japan. “Kimi-no Na-ha (2016)” set in the Hida, surrounded by high mountains of Northern Alps of Japan. “Summer Wards (2009)” is set in the Ueda, rural area which similar to the Hida. Last Saturday, I saw the movie “The Anthem of the Heart (2015)” with my daughter. This is set in the Chi-Chi-Bu, west end of Saitama prefecture. Decades ago, our family often went there, so we enjoyed watching the familiar scenes as well as the story. |

Thank you so much for your classes today, I really enjoyed it !!! I often had difficulty finding words and kept you waiting for a long time, repeatedly, but thanks to your encouragement and patience and insight you were able to understand and summarize what I was trying to say, which was a great experience for me as well as fun. Today was my first lesson with Laure. I chose the article "London police given 1,000 acid attack kits". This is a real story in London. We talked about how cruel these crimes are. I am happy that I talked with her. I hope I will be able to speak more fluently in the future. |

It was really nice opportunity that I could take Ellie's lesson. She could understand smoothly what I wanted to do, and she taught me more expressions than I told her to broaden my vocabulary. Her way to speak was soft and easy to listen. It was nice time. Thank you. |

Although Max wasn't well today due to food poisoning, he gave me a very informative, enjoyable lesson as usual. We read the rest of the Kennedy's speech and discussed about his idea. He had strong message but he expressed it in an indirect way. He makes it clear the U.S. is ready for the war if necessary, but he prefers peace. I think he was definitely one of the few greate leaders not only in the U.S but in the world history. I really enjoyed today's lesson. Thank you Max. I hope you will get better soon. |

Today we read a CNN news transcript. The news was about American politics and I chose it because I really wanted to understand the Zakaria's idea as well as the American politics in general. With Terry's explanation, I was able to understand what's the anchor was talking about. Also I learned terms related to the U.S politics such as red/blue states, battle ground, pro-life, and evangelical. Thank you Terry! You helped me a lot! I can't wait our next lesson! |
