- Time Information
Please make sure that "Your local time" and "Summer Time System (= Daylight Saving System) availability"
are showing correctly. If not, go back to your "Profile" page and register the correct information.
- Basic Settings
1) Booking Acceptance Time-Limit
The default setting is "12 hours". This means students must book your lessons by 12 hours before each lesson time. You could change this time limit to as short as "5 minutes" depending on your availability. The shorter you set it, the more bookings you could expect. However, please be careful NOT to miss or be late for your lessons.
2) Weekly Work Pattern
You could register your basic "weekly work pattern" as a template. By using this template, scheduling
your lessons for each week could be much easier and quicker.
- Lesson Schedule
You can schedule your lessons using this time table up to 3 weeks ahead.

- (1) Select the week you would like to schedule.
- (2) Press "Edit" button.
- (3) Schedule your lessons for this week by clicking the time slots you would like to teach,
or by pressing the "Apply your Weekly Work Pattern" button. - (4) Press "Update" button.
Step 3. Receive a Booking
When a student books your lesson, "OPEN" in your lesson scheduler will turn into "BOOKED" and you will receive 2 emails.
1) Booking notice: You will receive this email at the time the student has made the booking.
2) Lesson reminder: You will receive a reminder email 2 hours prior to the booked lesson time.
* If the booking was made less than 2 hours before the lesson time, this reminder won't be sent.
Step 4. Prepare for the Lesson
1. Log-in to your "My Page" and find the booking information at "Booked Lessons" section.
2. Click "Detail" button and check the lesson details.
3. Prepare for the lesson, in accordance with the information shown in this page.
- Today's Lesson Request/ Message (Most important)
- Student Profile
- Past lesson records
Step 5. Check in (Skip this part)
Only if your account has the "Check-in" feature activated, you will need to confirm your attendance to your lessons. So, please check-in to each of your lessons by clicking "Check-in" button.
* Check-in button can be clicked in between 120 mins and 10 mins before the lesson time.
[Important]
If you fail to check-in;
- The lesson is cancelled automatically and a cancellation fee is applied to your account. (See Cancellation Policy)
- Eigox will assign a replacement tutor for the lesson. So, please never call the student any more.
Step 6. Call and teach your student
1. Call the student on the lesson time.
* Student's Skype ID is shown on "Detail" page of each lesson.
* Skype Invitation:
When you call your "first time student", please send a Skype invitation by pressing
"Wave" button, which appears on your Skype screen. Please send the invitation at least a few
minutes before the lesson time.
[ How to call a student ]
When calling a student, please follow these steps.
Sign into Skype.
Copy the student's Skype ID and paste it in the Skype search box.
(Never type manually. It often leads to typos and you will never get hold of the student.)
In case there's more than one name in the search results, the first person is most likely to be your student.
Please right-click on the name and select "View profile". Then you can check if this person's Skype ID
matches with your student's Skype ID.
If the first person is not your student, then please try the same method on the other candidates
until you find your student.
Send the student a Skype invitation by pressing "Wave" button and call them at the lesson time.
* Even if your student doesn't accept your contact request, there is a high possibility that they are on-line
waiting for your call. (The case often is that they just don't know how to accept your invitation.)
So, please make sure to try to call them via Skype, ether video call or voice call, whichever possible.
* If the student doesn't answer your call, or your call doesn't get through, please wait by your PC
during the entire lesson time, just in case they show up late and call you.
2. Teach
Teach the student in accordance with their request for the lesson.
* Please check their request on the lesson "detail" page in advance.
Step 7. Write a Lesson Review
Please write your lesson review by clicking "Review" button within 24 hours after the lesson was conducted.
Step 8. Payment
[Pay Rate]
Pay Rate differs, depending on the type of lessons you teach.
Standard Lesson
・¥150 - ¥600 for Filipino tutors
・¥300 - ¥1200 for Native tu tors and Japanese bilingual tutors
Pay Rate for Standard Lesson
[ How it works ]
- - You can select your pay rate from the options shown on "Pay Rate Setting" page in your MyPage.
- - The options increase/ decrease based on your work performance which is assessed by the Eigox system
at the end of every month. (You can see the requirement for each pay rate on "Pay Rate Setting" page.)
[ Selecting Higher Pay Rate]
- - If you select higher pay rate, students have to pay higher lesson fee to book your lessons.
- - However, only if you select higher pay rate within the same "rank", students don't have to pay higher
lesson fee. For example, if you move from "Regular 1" to "Regular 2", there is no change in the fee
students have to pay to book your lessons. - - If you move to a different "rank", i.g. from "Regular 3" to "Premium 1", there is an increase in the
fee students have to pay to book your lessons. So, it could be a risky move for you. You could
lose some students.
[ Selecting Lower Pay Rate]
- - If you select lower pay rate by moving down to a lower "rank", i.g. from "Premium 1" to "Regular 3",
students pay lower lesson fee to book your lessons. So, you might get more bookings from students.
[ Note #1 ]
- - Your Pay rate options will increase/ decrease only 1 step per month, no matter how good/ bad your work
performance is. This is to avoid;
- 1) A sudden and drastic hike in the lesson price for students.
- 2) A sudden and drastic down in the pay rate for tutors who have a vacation, health problem, and
so on in a particular month.
[ Note #2 ]
- - Please avoid changing your pay rate frequently beyond your "rank" to avoid confusion among students.
Budget Lesson
・¥160 for Filipino tutors
・¥600 for Native tutors and Japanese bilingual tutors
Trial Lesson
・¥160 for Filipino tutors
・¥600 for Native tutors and Japanese bilingual tutors
* If the student signs up after taking your trial lesson, you will get an additional bonus (50% of trial lesson rate).

- Delay (10mins or more): 100% of the lesson fee is refunded and you will get 0% pay.
* If the student had already gone and the lesson was missed out due to your delay, you will need to pay
100% of your lesson rate to the student as a compensation. (The lesson is regarded as a "Tutor's No Show".)
* If you are late for a lesson, you could extend the lesson time with your student's agreement.
However, the total lesson time must be within 25 minutes. (Please don't go over 25 minutes.)
[ Student's Delay ]

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cancellation / No-Show
Please avoid cancelling your lessons once they have been booked by students.

3) Wait for the student to call you during the lesson time.
* If the lesson was delayed/ missed due to Skype troubles, please send us the screen-shot after the lesson time.
We will pay the delay/ cancellation compensation to the student on behalf of you. (You don't have to pay.)
Student Doesn't Answer Your Call
If your student doesn't answer your call, please try to call a few times during the lesson time
whether the student is online or off-line.
Please make sure you stay on Skype during the lesson time in case the student calls you late.
Even if the student doesn't show up and lesson is missed, your pay is guaranteed.
* Please take and save a screen-shot of your Skype showing that you tried to call the student a few times during the lesson time as an evidence. We may ask you to send the screen-shot to us in case the student claims that they didn't receive a call from you at the lesson time.
Bad Sound/ Video Quality
If the sound/ video quality is too bad to communicate smoothly, please turn off the video and see if
it has improved the sound quality. (Using video is preferable, but securing good sound is more important.)
If it doesn't work, please cancel the lesson and report it to us immediately via email. Don't forget to
mention that how much of the lesson was damaged and who you think was responsible for the trouble.
- Natural Disasters, etc.
If any other troubles (such as Internet disconnections and Skype malfunctions etc.)
occurred and you couldn't provide a full lesson, please report it to us by email and let us know how much of the lesson
was disrupted ( e.g. 10 mins of the lesson time was disrupted.) as soon as possible.
We will have to refund the student who suffered the damage.
HOW TO TEACH
● Lesson Flow
Please follow the next steps.
1) Greeting
Please exchange brief greetings.
- - Tell them your name.
- - Confirm your student's name.
e.g.

* If there is any problem, please try to fix it. You could turn off the video to improve the sound quality.
(Using video is preferable, but securing good sound is more important.)
e.g.
- T: T: First of all, I would like to make sure that you have no problems hearing my voice and seeing me on your Skype.
Can you hear me clearly? What about the video quality? - S: I can't hear you well, so can you turn up your speaker a little?
- T: OK, how about this now?
- S: Now I can hear you well.
- T: All right! Then, let's start today's lesson.
3) Teaching a lesson
(1) Casual conversation/ Ice breaking
Having a casual conversation before starting a lesson would be good for both you and student.
For a new student, please exchange self-introductions to break the ice and get to know each other.
For a student you already know, please enjoy a casual talk exchanging recent events which each of you experienced.
e.g.
- T: Since this is our first lesson today, let's start with some self-introductions.
- S: OK.
- T: Would you like to go first ?
- S: Sure, My name is Hiroko, I live in Tokyo and I work at Tokyo Bank, bla bla bla.
e.g.
- T: What's up? How was your week?
- S: Well, I went shopping with my friends this Sunday, and I bought bla bla bla.
[Note]
Some students prefer to start the lesson as soon as possible. If your student has requested
to minimize the ice breaking, please move on to the main lesson as soon as possible.
(2) Main lesson
Provide a lesson according to student's request.
(Check the lesson "Detail" page and prepare for their requests in advance.)
- Free talk
Enjoy free conversation with the student.
Please try to pick topics the student may request. If he/ she doesn't seem to have any particular topics,
then please suggest ones. You could use on-line free materials which provide you with various conversational topics.
e.g.
- T: You requested Free Talk today. Do you have any particular topic you want to talk about today?
- S: Yes, I want to talk about travel. I like to travel and went to many countries bla bla bla.
- Textbook (Lesson Materials/ Textbooks)
Please teach a textbook according to the student's request.
You can also see what and which part he/ she studied in the previous lesson by checking the "5 most recent lesson reviews"
written by other tutors in the lesson "Detail" page.
e.g.
- T: You requested to study Side by Side today. According to previous lesson review, you just finished page 15, right?
- S: Yes.
- T: OK. Let's start from page 16 today!
- S: Yes, please.
- On-line free material (Lesson Materials/ Textbooks)
Please ask your student to see if he/ she has any particular requests for the on-line material
to study. If he/ she doesn't have any requests, then please pick some material for the lesson.
e.g.
- T: You requested to study on-line free materials today. Do you have any particular material you want to study today?
- S: I have no idea.
- T: All right then, let me suggest one. Let's see.... what about studying bla bla bla.
4) Closing
When the lesson time is up, please finish your lesson with a brief greeting and hang up on Skype.
e.g.
- T: Well, Hiroko, the lesson time is running out now. It was a really nice and enjoyable conversation we had today.
And I think your English is getting better little by little. - S: Oh, I see. I also enjoyed our lesson today. Thank you.

FAQ
(Q) My profile is not displayed on the Eigox website. Why?
(A)
Our system checks your lesson schedule every 10 minutes, and if you don't have
any open slots/ booked slots at all, you will be identified as "unavailable" and automatically switched
to an "invisible mode". Once you open a lesson slot, you will be back to "visible" on the Eigox website.
Please check your schedule at least once a week, and make sure to have some open
slots to stay on the Eigox website all the time. Otherwise, you'll miss out on the opportunities to get students!
(Q) My lesson reservation has been deleted by the Eigox system, Why?
(A)
If you find your lesson disappeared from the "Booked Lessons" section, it is either of the following cases.
- Your lesson has been cancelled by the student.
- Your lesson has been cancelled automatically by the system due to your CHECK-IN failure.
You can find what exactly happened on the "Lesson Record" page.
[ Attention ]
If you failed to CHECK-IN and the lesson has been cancelled, the lesson is no longer yours.
So, please NEVER call the student. A replacement tutor (= substitute tutor) will call the student instead of you.
* Even if your student calls you at the lesson time, please explain the situation and hang up the call.
(Q) I never find "Replacement Lesson" information on my MyPage. Why?
(A)
If you receive many "Replacement Tutor Wanted" emails, but never find "Replacement Lesson" information
on your MyPage, that's because the replacement lessons had been taken by other tutors and the information
had been deleted before you logged into your MyPage. The competition is very high, so if you wish to get
replacement lessons, please go to your MyPage as soon as you have received email notices.
(Q) My student wants to record our lesson. Is this allowed?
(A)
Yes, it's allowed. However, they are supposed to let you know when they start recording.
[ Important ]
The recorded video is for personal use only. If you found that your student had uploaded the video to SNS or any other websites, please kindly inform us.
(Q) Can we get a letter of recommendation / certificate of employment?
(A)
Since we are a service provider of a platform for freelance tutors to provide
English lessons online, and not in the position of an employer of them,
we are not allowed to issue a letter of recommendation / certificate of employment.
Thank you for your understanding.
