In the hush of a bitterly cold winter evening, just think about backing to the grind makes me shudder, and I am definitely not back in the swing yet. I think is due to the freezing cold that makes most people sluggish.

I wish John were at the helm of state.
The bee`s knees would organize the COVID-19 test shambles, he wouldn`t go gallivating around amid the pandemic. Prominent, he would cut taxes helping the squeezed middle that pay for everything but are entiltled to nothing.
John should make a bid for the next election.

During the 20th Century, many traumtic events, both natural and man-made, occurred around the world. Yet one of the very worst of these disasters, one which affected about a third of the world`s population and led to up 50 million fatalities, has often been forgotten or overlooked. This was the great flu epidemic that began in 1918, the last year of the First World War, and spread rapidly around the world before finally dying down in the autumn of 1919. No one knows where the disease began, but because Spain was one of the first countries to be devastated by it, it became known as the "Spanish flu".
The flu, or influenza, is a highly contagious virus which spreads through the air when people cough or sneeze. Even today, outbreaks occur each year, leading to deaths. The Spanish flu, though, was far more lethal in its effects. One reason is that at the time, no vaccines or medication for the disease existed. Another is that, unlike most forms of flu, this one mainly affected healthy young people. Usually, when robust young people come down with flu, they throw it off fairly easily. In 1918 and 1919, however, countless young people those who caught the disease was unusually high. The doctors who tried to tackle the disease had no effective remedy for it and so had no way to help those who were suffering from it.
Although the pandemic coincided with the First World War, the war did not cause it. It may, though, have made it worse. The adverse conditions in the army, where soldiers suffered from fatigue and vitamin deficiencies, probably made them more vulnerable to exposure to the virus. Moreover, soldiers who fell sick were rounded up and concentrade in military hospitals, spreading the flu to other patients. Indeed, more American soldiers died from the flu than on the battlefield. Any infectious disease will pass through an army quickly, especially one weakened by physical exhaustion. One modern historian has actually put forward the controversial theory that the flu helped to bring the war to an end. This was because it killed a higher proportion of soldiers in the Germany and Austrian armies, breaking down their will to fight, than it did in the armies of Britain and her allies.
After the first outbreak of the virus, it died down temporarily, but then there another surge of infections. Of course, there have been flu epidemics. One in 1957 killed two million people. But survival rates in these later outbreaks were far better. Scientists who have studied specimens of the Spanish flu suggest it may have weakened the lungs, leading to infection by dangerous bacteria. The Spanish flu was a terrible warning of the dangers of viral infections, and the fact that it has not made more impact on our historical memory remains puzzling.

Cockroaches must be one of the least popular insects in the world. Although in some cultures they are considered edible, probably nobody finds them lovable. Indeed, they are usually regarded as, at best, annoying pests and, at worst, filthy carriers of disease. Such is the discomfort they cause that people spend large sums of money on poisoning them in the hope of banishing them from their homes. Of course, cockroaches are very tough. Even if the common idea that they would survive a nuclear war may not be strictly true, they can survive fifteen times the radiation that human being can. But is such persecution of cockroaches advisable? Would the wholesale elimination of such creatures be a good idea?
In fact, there are people who stick up for cockroaches. One such defender is an expert in cockroaches. He points out that , from the point of view of ecology, the complete loss of the world`s 4,500 species of cockroaches would have many negative effects. For a start, cockroaches are an important element in the diet of assorted small mammals such as rats and mice. Moreover, by eating and digesting decaying plants, they release nitrogen into the soil which is essential for the growth of new plants. The health of the world`s forests actually hinges on cockroaches. This is a useful reminder of the importance of all parts of the ecosystem and suggests that perhaps we should reconsider our attitude to the lowly cockroach.

The venue for the first Olympic Games, held in 779 B.C., was Olympia, Greece, an idyllic rural setting with a stadium, three sacred temples, and only one inn for guests. The quiet village would become a boisterous hub of ancient sports and entertainment every four years. Peripheral distractions included artistic and literary events, as well as more frivolous entertainment such as fortune-telling and fire-eating displays.
Athletes showed up at the nearby city of Elis one month before the Games. They underwent a stringent training regimen and weaker athletes candidates, who were not cut out for Olympic competitions, would be weeded out. Before entering the stadium for the Games, athletes went to a temple to swear an oath they would abide by Game rules. Athletes would also invoke the gods, pleading for power to vanquish their oponents.
Olympic officials worried that athletes would turn elsewhere in their efforts to win. It was said that some athletes used powerful potions to enhance their perfomance. Others placed curses on their opponents. Corruptions entered the Games in other forms from the 4th century B.C. Eupolus, a boxer was caught bribing his opponents, who had been asked to throw their matches. Although the early Olympic Games are considered to have been clean and fair overall, wrongdoing has a fairly long history.

Driving my car going to work, I view boisterous nippers pouring in through the gates of the school, scuffing through fallen leaves standing out in the end of autumn. One more year near to end. A year marked of coronavirus pandemic, who would have thought it? Hope the new vaccine give us a new lease of life. Hopefully.

Celebration and grieving had melted away to expose a hard question for divided families and a divided nation.
President John`s final days ripe for settling scores and pardoning allies. Whereas in Japan, moving from John`s impetuous style to a more conventional approach will be an abrupt change for Tokyo, which has grown accustomed to the president`s mercurial manner.
