We read an article about Japanese's cherry blossom viewing. Terry said there was no hanami equivalent event in U.S. I forgot to mention there were even smart phone applications offering food catering service to hanami venues. That is another suggestion how crazy we are about cherry blossoms. It was fun talking to you, Terry. Thank you! |

Today we read an article about recluses (hikikomori) in Japan. The author of the article is very perspective and I could get an insight of Japanese recluses. The article included some good vocabraries too. I really enjoyed reading the article with Terry. Thank you Terry! |

We read an article about President Trump's speech style. The author shows the difference between the speech Trump made when he was not famous and the one he made in 2015. It was an very interesting article and also included a lot of vocabraries: "do a number on somebody" (means to attack someone and do really a good job), "mirror image" (means reflecting who you are), "folksiness" (means being simple, not intelligent, not sophisticated), "buttoned-up" (means being closed and defensive)"stunt" (means being fake),etc. I enjoyed reading the atcile with you, Terry. Thank you! |

I asked Terry questions I've got from movies I watched recently. Those cconversational English are difficult to learn by myself. Terry, thank you for explaining the meaning of those expressions. It's really fun learning English from you. I have a couple of more questions, which I am going to ask you in our next lesson. Have a good night! |

We read an article about crypto currency. We learned that Japan is now the largest trading market for bitcoin, partly due to the ban on bitcoin by Chinese government. Terry describes it as "shaddy" system. Although both Terry and I don't get into cryptocurrencies, we are interested in learning how they work. So we agreed to read some more articles next time. It's always fun to me to learn things with you, Terry. Thank you for the lesson and I look forward to seeing you next time! |

During the catch up with Terry, I told him my recent hiking experiences and how I enjoy living in my town. We also talked about mobile carriers in Japan and the Philippines. I have had a frustrating experience with one of Japan's major carrier. Terry told me the situations in his country, which seems a lot worse than in Japan. Terry told me he's moving to Manila in a couple of months. I hope you will enjoy the life there! Thank you Terry. I am looking forward to seeing you next time. |

This was the first lesson this year. First of all, we talked about traffic accidents in this holiday season. The police often uses a breathalizer to detect alcohol and fines violators. We should pay attention not to involved car accidents caused by drunken divers. Maybe, not walking at late night, using public transportations or something. Then, as the current trend, some companies have evaluated English communication skills and TOEIC has not been used as the standard of workers' communication ability because the test has no speaking and writing sections. We need more skills for communication or making a speech in the globalizing society. Thank you very much, Terry for interesting and inspiring lesson. See you next time. |

After exchanging new year's greetings, we read an article about IBM. There were words and expressions I was not familiar with and Terry explained to me their defitions and how they are used. I learned "rolling your sleeves up" (meaning getting to work), "driving home"(making a point), "being on your own merits"(on your own credit, You've earned it", "taking something onboard" (you have to consider), and "coming full circle/cycle"(all the way back to where you started). I enjoyed our lesson! Thank you Terry. I am looking forward to talking to you next time. |

I think I have been very fortunate to have an English teacher like Terry. He is very intelligent and well familiar with politics, enocomy, culture, technoglogy, and things in general. It's been fun to talk to Terry about a variety of subjects throughout the year. I enjoyed all the lessons we had this year. Terry, thank you for the lessons and I wish you a happy christmas and a new year! |

We talked about how we spend our Christmas and new year days. Terry talked about how he used to enjoying fireworks on new year days and he still does. I told him that I was no longer young enough to spend a whole night at shrines or temples for new year celebration. In later half of the double lesson we read the article about IBM. I learned some good vocabraries and expressions, including being bullish and bearish. Thank you Terry! |
