It seems to me he likes talking by himself rather than making the student talk. Also the way he complains about what he dislikes does not make me feel any good though I can understand his feeling.

I can hardly imagine that deep-fried cockroaches or other insects/worms are eaten in Thailand...I know you never want to try them (me neither!!). In Japan, Thailand is very popular not only for sightseeing but also as a place for immigration of retired people. You'll get better soon under the sun, in such a wonderful country.
