Hello, my name is Jonathan and I’m originally from San Diego, California in the US. I am currently a Ph.D. candidate at Temple university and have a master’s degree in education for second and foreign languages. I began my English teaching in Japan at elementary school and junior high schools for two years, then moved to an international preschool and elementary school for eight years, and now I have been working at two universities for the past four and a half years. Thus, I’ve worked with students from a wide range of ages and educational goals and expectations around Japan for the last 14 and a half years.

My greatest passion in language teaching is helping students build speaking fluency. In my own experience learning Japanese I was always frustrated with my speaking abilities, and I've made it my goal to help other students build their speaking abilities using my own experiences as a guide.

My lessons focus on helping students utilize the language skills they have to build toward more fluent production of language, whether that be in speaking, reading, writing, or listening. My areas of expertise in language learning are vocabulary development and increasing speaking proficiency. I am fully capable of adapting my lessons to your specific needs and goals, but the focus will be on engaging you with the language through practice with the aim of developing fluency in whatever area you want to work in.

I am a fitness nut who loves to lift weights, go hiking, and talk about all things related to health and fitness. I also love watching movies and television, and I have a YouTube channel devoted to reviewing some of my favorites. Finally, I am also a huge fan of Disneyland, tabletop gaming, and miniature painting! I look forward to helping you meet your language goals, whatever they may be!
