🌻 ¡Hola! Hi! こんにちは!

I’m Maria Juliana, and I’m from Colombia 🇨🇴 I’ve been living in Japan since I was 18, and right now I’m a final-year International Relations and Peace Studies student at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Beppu, Oita 🏞️

A little about me: I love hiking, yoga, and dancing 💃, I play video games (the Persona series is my favorite 🎮), I watch a lot of anime, and I even cosplay sometimes! On my days off you’ll usually find me in a small local cafe, talking with the owner about their life and how they ended up there ☕ I’m genuinely curious about people, and honestly that’s my favorite part of teaching too.

🗣️ My languages
Spanish is my mother tongue, and I speak English (bilingual), Japanese (JLPT N2, studying for N1), and French (DELF B2). So I know exactly how it feels to know what you want to say but not be able to say it yet. I’ve been there in three languages 😅

💡 Why I teach
Learning English completely changed my life. It let me study abroad in Canada 🇨🇦, travel, volunteer in Thailand 🇹🇭, and make friends all over the world. I want my students to feel that same door opening. I’ve taught English and Spanish to both children and adults, including volunteering in Thailand where I taught English to kids aged 4 to 15 and prepared all of my own worksheets and activities ✏️

📚 My lessons
My lessons are relaxed, friendly, and conversation-focused. I will never make you feel embarrassed for making a mistake, I promise 🙆‍♀️ We can talk freely about your hobbies, work, or travel plans, or I can prepare material for a specific goal. I take notes during the lesson and send you the vocabulary, corrections, and more natural ways to say things at the end, so you always have something to review 📝 If you’re a beginner and get stuck, I can support you in Japanese, so please don’t worry!
