Hi there, it's Dana! I live in a small, but charming Italian town called Lodi, though I am originally from the Philippines. I have been teaching English as a second language for 18 years now, specializing in Business English, conversation English, and exam preparation. If I were to summarize my teaching philosophy, it would have to be: Safe space, fluency first, and global comprehensibility. I intentionally try to cultivate a learning environment where my students can feel safe to express themselves without fear of judgment. When students feel at ease, they're more empowered to speak. I strongly believe that this is the first step to language learning because when students feel comfortable, then they are able to actively participate in the lesson and be completely engaged. How I relate to my students and the way I find opportunities for them to use the target language strongly impact their potential to progress. In my free time, I love hiking in the mountains and then treating myself to home-cooked meals in an Italian 'rifugio'. On a typical day, you will often find me walking along the Adda river. I love these three Japanese concepts: kaizen, ikigai, and shinrin-yoku.
