Hello - and right at the outset please accept my thanks for taking time to read my profile. I hope you will decide to take a lesson with me and I look forward to meeting you soon. 

I am a television journalist by profession and have taught filmmaking for the past 15 years. Three years ago I also started teaching English. I completed a TEFL certificate to help me with my English classes. I have mainly taught Japanese people to date as I have a particular interest in your country. I am enjoying this very much and have learnt a great deal about Japan. I am excited now to also be a part of Eigox. 

I am from South Africa and I live in Cape Town, our mother city. I am a native English speaker with a clear accent and offer conversation lessons about any subject that you might choose.

Cape Town is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and at it's heart is the iconic 'Table Mountain'. So named by the early colonists because of its flat top resembling a table. It's traditional name however, given by the indigenous Khoisan people, is Hoerikwaggo which means 'Mountain In The Sea'. The following photo was taken from Bloubergstrand ('blue-mountain-beach'), the area in Cape Town where I live.

As I mentioned earlier, I am a television journalist by profession and I have spent the past 30+ years reporting for various local television shows. I have also for the past 15 years been teaching documentary filmmaking and visual storytelling. When COVID hit us in 2020 I developed and moved all my classes online which means that I can now teach students from anywhere in the world. 

This is a group of students I taught in the Kalahari during 2024. The Kalahari is a semi-desert area of South Africa and these students made films about climate change and the importance of preserving the environment. 

I also ran this class in 2024. This one for a group of enviromental activists in London where their films  focussed on preserving marine animals and their environment. 

And now that COVID is under control I continue to also teach journalism and storytelling in class situations - this photo was taken in 2024 at the University of Cape Town's Film and Media school, teaching aspiring filmmakers the art of storytelling. Young people have so many stories to tell, and what I do is help them with structure and focus. 

My English teaching is focused on what students want and our conversations are about what they are interested in. We tackle subjects that you have a passion for. We talk, listen, and read together, which gives me the opportunity to help with your pronunciation, grammar, and comprehension. My lessons are relaxed and move at the student's pace, taking ability your into consideration. I firmly believe that the best way to learn a language is to speak it through conversation and interaction with others. And practice of course always makes perfect.

My hobbies are photography, filmmaking, reading, and watching movies. I also enjoy walking and hiking, keeping up to date with what's happening in the world, and I have a special passion for growing rare South African succulents from seed. Here is one in flower—Faucaria Tigrina—now 5 years old. I purchase seed from a reputable dealer who sources ethically, thereby not endangering plants in the wild.
