Hello - and right at the outset please accept my thanks for taking time to read my profile. I hope you will decide to take a lesson with me and I look forward to meeting you soon. 

My lessons take the form of a two-way conversation about whatever subject you wish to talk about. We can talk about current day world politics and economics or the history that lead us to where we are today. On a more personal note we can talk about health, travel, movies, art or simply the importance of living a less stressful life. You tell me what you want to talk about. My conversation lesson are relaxed and easy and the aim is for you to enjoy a pleasant experience while we speak in English. 

I am South African and I am a native English speaker with a neutral accent.

By profession I am a television journalist. I have also taught documentary filmmaking for the past 15 years and for the past four years I have taught English through conversation. I am a university graduate and have completed a TEFL certificate. I am excited to be a part of Eigox and have met some remakable people online. 

At the heart of Cape Town, the ciry I live in, is the iconic 'Table Mountain'. So named by the early colonists because of its flat top resembling a table. It's traditional name however, given by the indigenous Khoisan people, is Hoerikwaggo which means 'Mountain In The Sea'. The following photo was taken from Bloubergstrand ('blue-mountain-beach') where I live.

I have spent the past 30+ years reporting for various local television shows. I have also for the past 15 years taught documentary filmmaking. When the COVID pandemic hit us in 2020 I moved my classes online which means I now teach students from all over the world. 

This is a group is from the Kalahari during 2024. The Kalahari is a semi-desert area of South Africa and these students made films about climate change and the importance of preserving the environment. 

I also ran this class in 2024 for a group of enviromental activists in London where their films  focussed on preserving marine animals and their environment. 

I also still teach in person - this photo was taken in 2024 at the University of Cape Town's Film and Media school.

My hobbies are photography, filmmaking, reading, and watching movies. I also enjoy walking and hiking, keeping up to date with what's happening in the world, and I have a special passion for growing rare South African succulents from seed. Here is one in flower—Faucaria Tigrina—now 5 years old. I purchase seed from a reputable dealer who sources ethically, thereby not endangering plants in the wild.
