My name is Shiven and I am an TESOL and TEFL-qualified teacher of English from South Africa. My country is a beautiful, green country with an amazing ocean and lots of friendly people and a strong tradition of music, culture, and history.
Educational background
I have law qualification which has enabled me to function in a better way as a Police Officer. I later qualified as a TEFL and TESOL teacher to attain formal training in how to teach speakers of English as a second language. I love English and try to help my students learn and love the language as much as I do.
Career history
After graduating from university I joined the Police Service and I love what I do which is protecting the citizens of my country. It has been my dream to work as a Police Officer and I'm happy to be doing so.
Teaching
I moved to the Japan in 2022 and began teaching English to Japanese students in Yokahoma at the start of 2023 . My students have included 4 year-olds right up to 70 year-olds. Everyone can learn!
Actually, I did teach before I came to Yokahoma. When I was in university I tutored university students and during the summer holidays I used to teach English to students at a school in South Africa.
I’ve hugely enjoyed tutoring children and adults from all over Japan and helping them develop their English skills. However, I think I've learned just as much from my students about Japan, its culture, and customs. I’m grateful for this opportunity.
Teaching style
My students tell me that I'm friendly and patient and that they can improve at their own pace. If you want to learn then I think I can help you.
Helping you
My aim is to improve my students’ level of English. If you would like to improve your listening skills, vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, or just generally then I want to work with you! Everyone can improve, whether they are beginners, moderate speakers, or advanced learners. I would love to help you improve your English in a fun and enjoyable way.
