Hi, my name is Akari! I was born in Japan, and I grew up in the United States, Spain, China, and the Czech Republic. I am passionate about theories and practices surrounding global social justice, and I love reading and talking about different ways in which we can bring about a more equal world. I also like listening to music, playing instruments, walking, writing, cafe-hopping, thrift shopping, and going out with my friends. Recently, I have gotten into cooking too, so please tell me about your favorite recipes!!
I graduated from the University of Tokyo with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts, and will be pursuing a Master of Social Work at Columbia University starting next year. During my undergraduate studies, I was an English speaking and academic writing tutor for Japanese university students. I also helped Japanese elementary and middle school students with English at my international school in Spain.

In today's globalized world, those who speak English benefit significantly more from the effects of globalization than those who do not speak English, and one of these effects is the benefit of having their voices heard in the process of creating a more just world. Having had the privilege to grow up in an environment where I could learn English naturally, I am driven to support all students in their English-learning journeys.
