Today, we first talked about the news of President Trump tested positive for coronavirus. It was breaking news last night. I also told her about the twitter post about an online proctoring system. It seems that the system is causing anxiety in many students, even mistakingly accusing some of them of cheating. Then we talked about how online exams can be practical and less stressful for students. Thank you very much for the lesson. See you next time. |

Thank you for the wonderful lesson. Today we talked about yesterday's first presidential debate. The one I watched was a live stream by The New York Times, and I enjoyed the feature that it came with a live chat. We also talked about what makes good public speaking and our personal experiences speaking in front of an audience, such as classroom activities and conferences. |

Thank you for another wonderful lesson. Today, we talked about the importance of good sleep and how it seriously affects our quality of life. Some people are more susceptible to caffeine and blue light than others. Rose said lavender oil helps her sleep well. We also talked about the home office. Because of the growing need for a robust home office among people in the U.S., there seems to be a shortage of office desks in some areas, urging people to DIY. |

Thank you very much for another great lesson. Talking with you always brings joy into my life. Today we talked about who usually cooks in the household, male or female. I told her that female has been responsible for cooking and other major household chores in Japan for a long time, and it still is. We also talk about how to give effective presentations. I introduced her to the webinar that I took recently on PowerPoint presentation and data visualization, which I had wanted to learn for a long time. |

Thank you for today's lesson and fruitful discussion! We talked about our experiences in online learning and online teaching. Many teachers have to adapt to the online platform because of the pandemic. It seems extremely hard for teachers dedicated to education to set boundaries between working and private time nowadays. We also talked about how people try to look good in video meetings. |

Thank you for the wonderful lesson. Today we talked about how winter looks like in the Philippines, Japan, and California. Rose said Uniqlo is selling winter clothes in the Philippines as well, where there's no winter season, targeting those who travel abroad. We also talked about body dysmorphia. I suggested that a therapy session or counseling in the clinic might help decrease the number of unnecessary plastic surgeries among young people and prevent severe mental illness development. |

Thank you for the great discussion on many topics! Today we talked about how the education system will be changing as a result of this pandemic. I told her about my positive experience of using the chat box during the webinar. Those students who are shy away from asking questions or expressing their opinions in front of classmates might find the chat function useful. Rose told me about her teaching philosophy of not judging student's statement as a 'mistake' in class, asking why they think in that way instead. I wish my past teachers in Japan had encouraged me to ask more 'stupid' questions and make more mistakes. |

Thank you for another wonderful lesson. Today we talked about the difference in insurance policy regarding the flu shot. In the US, the flu shot is often covered by insurance and free, but not many people take advantage of the system. In Japan, on the other hand, the shortage of the vaccine is expected this fall, and the older adults will be prioritized. We also talked about the Japanese new prime minister, Suga, who was not born in the political family, which is uncommon in Japanese politics. See you next time! |

Thank you for the wonderful lesson. Today we talked about the difficulty in using politically correct language and the gender issue in Japan. I told her about the YouTube video I saw yesterday that an English teacher with a British accent apologized for her previous video regarding the English accent that sounds 'professional.' It seems that her post had caused a lot of negative reactions in some linguists and language learners. I also told her about the color/gender stereotypes in Japan and the Japanese custom of sending pink clothes to a girl, blue to a boy, and yellow when you don't know the baby's gender. |

Thank you very much for the lesson today. I told Rose about the smoke and the dust caused by wildfires in California and the possible worsening of air quality. We also talked about the water and air pollution diseases in Japan, the Philippines, and China. Then, we discuss what we think would be useful to stop compulsive shopping, such as deleting the apps for online shopping and leaving items in the shopping cart. See you next time. |

Thank you very much for today's lesson. We talked about the possible detrimental effect of online learning on kids' eyesight and whether blue light filtering glasses can prevent it. We also discuss how statistics and math are used in our everyday life. I introduced her to the online course I recently took, 'Understanding Medical Research: Your Facebook Friend is Wrong.' We agree that we have to be careful to interpret the results even the article is published in renowned journals. |

Thank you for another wonderful lesson. We talked about the COVID situation here and in the Philippines. She said she went to the grocery store for the first time in several months. I was amazed to hear that people wore both face masks and face shields to enter the store. It's a shame that people in the US are reluctant to follow the health policies, which are certainly less strict than those in the Philippines. |

There are good and bad in being employed in a company. You may feel securities or unfair. I don't like to be told to do what to do. I like to be free to do things and take responsibilities. |

We talked about bank checks. We don't use them in Japan. Maybe some business use them. But it's not common to ordinary people. I head it's common in the Philippines. USA used to use checks in daily life, but now people use credit cards. |

There was a chat about pre-hispanic history in Philippines. It seems that the influence from India was great. I had a lot of interest in that point. But I couldn't talk well. My English is stll poor. I couldn't converse in deep. |
