After exchanging new year's greetings, we read an article about IBM. There were words and expressions I was not familiar with and Terry explained to me their defitions and how they are used. I learned "rolling your sleeves up" (meaning getting to work), "driving home"(making a point), "being on your own merits"(on your own credit, You've earned it", "taking something onboard" (you have to consider), and "coming full circle/cycle"(all the way back to where you started). I enjoyed our lesson! Thank you Terry. I am looking forward to talking to you next time. |

I think I have been very fortunate to have an English teacher like Terry. He is very intelligent and well familiar with politics, enocomy, culture, technoglogy, and things in general. It's been fun to talk to Terry about a variety of subjects throughout the year. I enjoyed all the lessons we had this year. Terry, thank you for the lessons and I wish you a happy christmas and a new year! |

We talked about how we spend our Christmas and new year days. Terry talked about how he used to enjoying fireworks on new year days and he still does. I told him that I was no longer young enough to spend a whole night at shrines or temples for new year celebration. In later half of the double lesson we read the article about IBM. I learned some good vocabraries and expressions, including being bullish and bearish. Thank you Terry! |

In the later half of our lesson, we read an article about IBM AI strategy. We learned that IBM's established a special school where students can learn math and scienece for becoming an IBM future employee. We both agreed that it's good for the company to help people be educated but focusing on just math and science might not be a good idea. What if some of them lose interests in those field after entering the company? Also in many cases it's difficult for people when they are young to figure out what they want to do, who they are, what kind of jobs or lives they want to have in the future. It was fun to talk to you Terry! I even leaned one of the factors behing the U.S. current president winning the election. Thank you Terry. Let's continue reading this article in our next lesson. Have a nice day! |

After catching up each other, I asked Terry some questions about move transcripts. Terry explained the meaning of name-drop, being discreet, getting laid in, crash and burn on, being spontaneous, hooking somebody up with, throwing off, being stoned out, etc. I even learned where the band name Rolling Stones came from. Thank you Terry!! |

It was nice talking to you! I enjoyed more talking daily topics without pressure after my business trip is over :) I will enjoy a free talk a bit more with you before I'll be serious for business English. |

In the later half of our lesson we read an article about AI. I learned IBM's idea about AI. The company renamed AI as Cognitive Computing as they define AI as something helps us make better decisions based on correct data amid cognitive overload. By doing so the company seems to want to get people to understand AI does help us instead of doing harm to us in ways many people perceived. Also for AI to work in business, it needs to be able to learn things and keep being developed. Terry and I both admit that we feel a bit fear about the idea of an AI keeping trained and developed. It was an interesting article. Let's continue the article next time! Thank you Terry! |

After we catched up with each other, I asked questions about movie scripts. I learned a lot of expressions like snapping back, being Southern, getting in there, a train wreck, going to a lot of trouble, flair, being tanked, signing off on, stickler, thorough, wrapping your head around, being good in the kitchen, etc. Terry explained those expressions using expamle sentences so I could understand very well. I want to try to use some of those in my own conversations! Thank you Terry. |

We caught up with each other by me talking about the stomackache i have had for a couple of days and how grained burdock worked for it and by Terry talking about how he did not trust hospitals. We also talked about how we felt about extreme activists judging people and how we expressed or hided our feeling in our daily lives. We agreed that maybe we need some extraterrestrials to shift our attention outside the earth so that we can stop attacking each other and work together dealing with the new enemy. I enjoyed today's conversation with you, Terry. I am looking forward to talking to you next time! |

We talked about how to enjoy alcohol minimizing bad effect on our body and a trouble I had with my collegue this past week and then read the CNN article. Terry explained the U.S. immigration issue and that sounds very complex and hard to solve. Thank you Terry! I always learn a lot of things from you. I'm looking forward to seeing you next time! |
