Hello! My name is Jay, I am 26 years old, I was born in Ecuador but grew up in Dubai. I lived there until the age of 18, that's when I moved to New York to pursue an acting career. Acting has been a true passion of mine since I can remember, after watching my first Jim Carrey movie I knew what I was gonna do for the rest of my life. I love learning new languages and learning about different cultures, traveling has become a passion of mine since I moved countries for the fourth time to Chile. I love sports, reading books, watching tv shows, movies & of course going to the theatre.
I had to learn English when I moved to Dubai at the age of 10, I was scared and frustrated & every day I was ready to give up because I saw no progress. I kept at it with the support of my family (who luckily was already fluent in the language) after two months of working with effective techniques I was able to communicate without any issues, as time went on I do not recall ever having an issue communicating ever again with this language. This is the reason why I love to teach, I was on the other side of this language too, I know how hard it is. I have the patience and the tools to go from "my name is...." to having people think you were born in an English speaking country.
I like to get to know the students before I customize their lessons, I believe they all need their own specific lesson plan in order to move forward. It can be general based on their level, but specific based on the individual. With beginners I always start with daily activities, it is the easiest way for them to understand the actions and apply the language on a daily basis. For intermediate I like to discuss the things they are passionate about, I find that students at this level tend to have a very good understanding of the language but lack the speaking practice, for advanced students I highly encourage reading, it is the best way to improve all aspects of the language.
