I am Karen. I live in sunny South Africa. My family comes from a very small country called The Netherlands. My first language is English. I am fluent in Dutch and can speak basic French and German.
About me:
I am both a teacher and a lifelong learner. You never stop learning, growing and developing to your fullest potential. Before becoming a teacher I travelled a lot. I visited many different countries such as Peru, Germany, Austria, Mauritius, UK, USA, France, Spain, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and also Zimbabwe and Botswana. I really enjoy meeting new people and learning about their different cultures I am especially interested in Japanese history, which is so rich and unique.
My Hobbies:
I enjoy all sports ( I was a physical education teacher for many years). I love hiking, horse riding, researching information on various topics and I also like to relax at the end of a busy day and watch movies.
My Teaching experience:
I have had many wonderful years in teaching, most of these years were at the American International school. There I taught elementary school students from all over the world.
A big part of my teaching style is to first get to know and understand the student, then I can plan lessons best suited for each individual. My method is "Best Practices". This means I try to use a range of interesting activities and a combination of modeling, demonstrating and mentoring to give the student the opportunity to take responsibility for a positive change in their academic process.
My Objective:
Learning a new language is often not easy. It is ok to make mistakes. The best way to get better is to practice, practice, practice. It would be an honor and a privilege to help you learn and improve your English. Let’s have some fun and enjoy this journey together.
