My name is Declan and I'm a 25-year-old TRINITY qualified English language teacher from Scotland with a passion for Japan and helping other people.
Educational Background & Teaching Experience
I am currently a final year student at the University of Central Lancashire in the UK. I am studying TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) with Japanese. I have been learning Japanese for a few years, so I will try my best to help you in Japanese if it is needed. I intend to teach English in Japan after I graduate and am also interested in translation and interpretation. I plan to study a masters in this field in the future.
I have been teaching English classes for about a year. I have experience with teaching online and have taught students from many different backgrounds. I also have lots of experience with teaching 1-on-1 in a tutoring style.

I think one of the most important things when learning a new language is to have fun and to feel relaxed and comfortable. I try to make my lessons fun, engaging and relevant to you. Every student is different, so I strive to personalize my lessons to each of my students.

How I can help you in our lessons:
- Conversation
If you want to improve your fluency with speaking, I am happy to chat with you about a variety of topics. This can include daily conversations, roleplays (ordering at a restaurant, booking a hotel room etc.), interviews and so on.
- Vocabulary
I can help you to expand your vocabulary in a variety of ways. I can teach you synonyms, casual speech, formal speech, slang words, idioms, useful phrases and much more.
- Grammar
I can help you with a wide range of English grammar points. I will explain in a way that is easy to understand and will help you with a variety of examples so that you won't feel confused.
- Pronunciation
If you like, I can also assist you with pronunciation. I can help you with things such as intonation, natural pronunciation, rhythm and more.
- Academic Writing/Presentations
If you need help with essays or presentations, I can review your work with you and offer advice to improve your work and make it sound more professional.

More About Me
I love learning new things and learning to see the world from new perspectives. I think one of the most interesting things about learning a new language is learning a new way of thinking and better understanding the cultures of others. I hope that during our lessons that I can also learn something from you!
I've visited Japan twice and can't wait to go there again. I was supposed to study abroad in Tokyo this year, but unfortuantely it was cancelled because of COVID-19. However, I plan travel to Japan again as soon as I can!
Facts about me:
-I love all animals, but I especially love dogs
-I've been on Japanese TV once (今夜はナゾトレというテレビ番組)!
-My favourite Japanese food is karaage and taiyaki
-I love The Legend of Zelda (ゼルダの伝説) series
