I heard my hometown was snowing today. I am emviable of my hometown because I love snow. Every year in late of November, I had been waiting for the snow in my youth. I can remember the fastest date of snow fallen. In my home town, it was mostly first week of December. When the snow falls, someone who looks outside during class shout “Hey look! It’s snowing!”. Every students looked outside, and the teacher didn’t scold that student. As we grown up, I work at the office in the central tokyo. But when we have first snowing in winter, someone always shout. Almost every guys look in the outside and gather in the windowside. No manager scold the member as the teachers do.

Hello, my name is Mariko, and I am living in Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.

Communicating in English is very different from doing it in Japanese; you have to tell your opinion clearly so you have to know about yourself well. English is not only a subject to study but a tool for talking about yourself and your opinions.

I am hoping to help you establish the foundation of your opinions so that you feel confident about yourself, and then as a next step you will start expanding your ability to use English to tell about yourself and understand other English speakers in the world.

I did not understand English when I was learning it in Japanese. I hated English and always failed English classes while I was in school in Japan. When I started studying English in English, I realized that English is really simple! It’s difficult when you think about it in Japanese. How did I learn this? Let me explain.

It has been over eight years since my ex-husband was transferred to Los Angeles and I was thrown into a new life where I was required to use English. The first year was very difficult and my health deteriorated; however, because of this experience, I decided to study medicine and started learning English from almost zero at UCLA Extension and community college in Los Angeles.

My first obstacle to overcome was the fact that I did not know about myself and did not have my own opinions. I could speak a little English, but I did not have any opinions to talk about. Ever since I realized that part, I started to think more critically and started having opinions in a field of my interest, and started telling those opinions to other people via English as a communication tool.

Then I studied general science courses and college level science courses to be accepted into graduate school to study naturopathic medicine, and I did it! I now am living with my American husband – who is an experienced English teacher – and he has trained me pretty well to speak proper English.

How about you? Do you know about yourself? I am hoping to help you with my experiences.
Even I could come up to this point, so you can do it! Let's make it happen together!

If you are planning to study in the United States, I can give you some tips to survive classes and how I studied to get As in universities!
